Student strike 7th-8th December
- no lectures, no work, no cramming, just resistance
Gathering 7th Dec 18.00 at the front of Porthania. Party!!!

STRIKE!

Promises, promises, once again empty promises. The student money has lost 20 percent of its real value since early 90’s, but still, this year like all previous years, there will be no increase for students in the budget. It seems that students are expected to take loan or waste all of their time in shitjobs.

Encouraging students to take loan is based on the idea that after graduation you go to a well-paid, full-time, steady job, which provides you the money to pay the loan back. However, we all realise that this idea is far from the reality of today.

Students, the absorbers and producers of new information, are the lowest-paid and most exploited workforce of the informational society of today. According to the inquiry by the student union (HYY), the median income of students is 646 euros a month, while the average income in Finland is 2500 euros a month.

At the same time, more and more control is being introduced affecting our life. Instead of improving our income level, they are proposing new tuition fees, trying to make us study with faster and faster pace, and trying to measure our achievements and performances more and more strictly and more specifically.

We have listened to politicians empty promises already long enough, we have made petitions in vain, we have been standing in front of the parliament house. Now it’s time for us to act by ourselves. We have to do something to show what kind of power the students can have when we join together, and what kind of significance we have in the development of the informational society.

Student strike 7th-8th December
- no lectures, no work, no cramming, just resistance
Gathering 7th Dec 18.00 at the front of Porthania. Party!!!

We demand:

- student money 500 euros a month, cash!
- enough with the proposals of tuition fees – in an informational society, information cannot be a privilege just for the rich!
- the university must take better care of trainees: with 800 euros a month we won’t be making coffee!
